MILLER REUNION and more

Robin flew in from Las Vegas on Thursday.  When she left Vegas at 8:30 am it as 110 degrees.  When she arrived in Eugene at 10:15, it was 54 degrees.  We enjoyed unseasonably cool weather all last week.  This week is another matter! We had a small family gathering Thursday evening so Robin could visit before heading out on Friday.  Kyle, Sonja, Emily, Tanner, Rex, Michelle, Nathan, Mikayla, Joshua, and Ryan J came over.   Michelle brought a really yummy blackberry cobbler and I had vanilla ice cream so we had a real Oregon feast.

Friday morning after making a couple of salads, packing, etc. we headed out for Crescent City. Ryan was home for the weekend so we stopped to visit with him for a few minutes.  We drove through the Jedidiah Smith Redwood Park on the way down but didn't see a lot of big trees.  Only medium big ones.  Checked in to our VRBO rental and then drove to Valdon and Marians to see who else had arrived. Dee, Mark and Neil were there, as well as several cousins.  And the visiting began!

Big Spaghetti feed on Friday night.  Most of my cousins I only see at the reunions, if then.  Ray and Carol were not able to come, due to some health issues.  My cousin Mary was there....I hadn't seen her since Santa Crua when she was in HS. So fun to see those that came.  All the Miller women of my generation are white/grey headed--and don't color it.  Also we are all short.

It was cool/cold Friday evening on the coast.  Wind was blowing, foggy, etc.  Dad and I both forgot our jackets so thankfully we had extra tee shirts we could layer.  Dad had brought some genealogy info for each family to update so many worked on that during the evening.

The VRBO was very nice. Plenty to room for us all--Neil, Dee, Mark, Rex, Michelle, Mikayla, Robin, Dad and I. Big kitchen and living area.  Nice patio.  I made chocolate chip cookies to go with the hot drinks we were all scrambling for once we got in out of the cold.  Rex and Michelle had a dry sauna in their bathroom so they used that to warm up.

Saturday morning was clear, blue sky and warm.  Such a rare, windless day on the coast.  So beautiful.  After a big breakfast many went to see sights in the area.  Robin, Dad and I checked out the local Farmers Market.  Back in time for lunch and more visiting.  More relatives had arrived during the morning. Late afternoon we went back to the rental for a nap before the evening meal.  Lots and lots of food.  Fried fish (cod I think), grilled salmon, BBQ'd chicken, salads upon salads, desserts.  Oh my, we were stuffed.

Back Row:  Valdon, Norton, Neil, Sylvia and Ralph.  Front Row:  Lynn, Elva Jean, Mary and Sue

Took pictures of the next generation of Miller cousins, since all the original children are now gone.  Some were leaving early Sunday morning so wanted to get all that we could together for photo.  None of Edna's family were there.  None of Ken's family.   Kenneth had planned to come from Oklahoma but had a big fire in one of the oil fields so he had to stay and manage a fire fighting crew.None of Dora's family (Texas). Minnie's family is all gone.  Bud, Chloe, Ralph, Virg, and Esther were represented.  Austin Payne is the oldest living cousin.  He lives in Henderson and was unable to come. Next oldest is Elva Jean (86) and she was there.  Then Valdon (82), Then Neil (82).They are just 21 days apart. Grandma Miller delivered them both, I think.
Oregon Coast near Brookings

After breakfast on Sunday morning most everyone headed out. A few stayed over until Monday.  Since Robin didn't have to be to the airport in Medford until evening. we took some time to see sights along the coast, had lunch at a famous fish place in Brooking harbor, then drove through the back side of the Jedidiah Redwood Park and saw some amazing trees.  Walked through Stout Grove--very awe inspiring. Headed on home after dropping Robin off and made it home before dark.  Tired but happy we went.
Now, that is a BIG log!
Robin and a giant of the forest

Rested up some on Monday.  Picked blackberries and strawberries in the evening.  So yummy over vanilla ice cream!
Big, Juicy and Oh, so sweet!

Today peeled  five and a half pounds of garlic, chopped it, put it in the dryer.  It was the elephant garlic, not the regular garlic.  Picked and chopped comfrey and started a tincture brewing.
Only part of the garlic.  Didn't think to take a picture until half done!

Dad picked green beans (our first!) for supper.  Also had fried zuccini and chicken salad.  Thank you Robin for the delicious gourmet tomatoes we are enjoying! Also the avacadoes.  (she bought them at Costco to take to the rental and then we didn't eat many of them, so we got to bring them home.)

Indexing and doing some family history stuff.  So much that needs doing!  I'm going to have to get up earlier in the morning!

There was a world wide indexing event on July 20/21.  Over 66,000 indexers worldwide did over 5.7 million records in 24 hours.  Fun to be a part of that.  All of those records will soon show up as searchable records on familysearch.

REMEMBER--if you order essential oils or anything from SparkNaturals, use coupon code--gmasmagic--and get 10% off your whole order.  (Even if they are already on sale!)

We enjoyed the weekend. Mikayla said the sunset on the beach was the best part.

I wish I could have been there! sounds like a good time! It has been forever- probably the last time I was ever in Oregon at Kuzin Kamp that I was at the coast.
